‘From 19:29 hrs consider me as Retired’ has left the entire nation by surprise. But this is not the first time Dhoni chose to announce his retirement out of the blue. He did this once in 2014 and now again in 2020. Interestingly, both the retirement announcement dates have two things in common- the date and his age (sum total)
MS Dhoni born on 7th July 1981, has Birth number 7 and destiny number 6. His most favorable numbers are 7 (as his birth number) and 3,6,9 (family of 6, his destiny number).
Being a staunch believer of numerology, his jersey number was 7 during ODI’s and T20’s. He plays for India (3). Cricketers with 3,6,9 numbers have done wonders for this country. MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Kapil Dev, and Sachin Tendulkar are a few examples.
Dhoni’s career in cricket, to date, has been governed by 3, 6, 9. Being his lucky numbers this has been very beneficial for him.
- He made his ODI debut in December 2004 (6) against Bangladesh.
- He played his first Test at the age of 24 (6) against Sri Lanka and the last Test at the age of 33 (6) in 2014 against Australia.
- Under his captaincy, India won 2007 (9) ICC World Twenty20, 2010 (3) and 2016 (9) Asia Cups
- Dhoni has captained India in two World Cups. Under his captaincy, India won the World Cup in 2011, when Dhoni was in his 30th (3) year
- In June 2013 (6), when India defeated England in the final of the Champions Trophy, Dhoni became the first captain to win all three ICC limited-overs trophies (World Cup, Champions Trophy and the World Twenty20)
- In 2013 (6), under his captaincy, India became the first team in more than 40 years to whitewash Australia in a Test series
- National honors received by Dhoni:
- 2018: Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award. [Age- 36 (9)]
- 2009: Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award. [Age- 27 (9)]
- Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, India’s highest honor given for achievement in sports.[Year 2007 (9)]
- He received his first ICC ODI Player of the Year award in 2008 at the age of 27 (9)
- Retirement Announcements:
- He announced his retirement from Tests on 30 December 2014 (3 &4) at the age of 33 (6)
- MS Dhoni announced his retirement from International cricket on 15 August 2020 (6 & 9) at the age of 39 (3)
3, 6, 9 has been very lucky for Dhoni. Should we consider this a mere coincidence that he announced both his retirements on his lucky dates (3,6,9) when his age too summed to 3 or 6 (lucky numbers again!)? Who knows maybe his final retirement could also be on one of his lucky dates. We’ll have to wait and watch till then.
